Describing the recent scandal in the banking sector as a common phenomenon worldwide, the finance minister, AMA Muhith, has said it is nothing dangerous.
Terming Sonali Bank loan scam the country’s ‘biggest scandal’, he said the MD of the ‘naughty’ organisation Hallmark was now in jail and he must be punished for misappropriating the bank money.
The minister was inaugurating the 513th branch of
Rupali Bank Ltd at Madina Market in the city Friday morning.
Describing the outcry of a section of intellectuals and bankers in this regard as ‘rubbish and bogus’, the finance minister said, ‘Making outcry is their nature. Those who make outcry don’t want country’s progress. They’re country’s enemies.’
Muhith also claimed that the country was passing through the best time in Bangladesh history, no matter what others say.
The finance minister said what the BNP chairperson, Khaleda Zia, was currently doing were tantamount to enmity towards the country.
‘As a patron of militant, violent and terrorist organisations Jamaat and Shibir, she (Khaleda) is unleashing anarchy across the country to protect them. What she is doing is not in the interest of the country; it’s totally enmity towards the country,’ he said. (Source)
