The Asian Development Bank and the government on Sunday signed a technical assistance grant agreement of $10 lakh for improving urban planning and traffic management in the Gazipur City Corporation areas, said a press release.
The Japan government is financing the technical assistance through the Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction. ADB will administer the fund and provide technical support for project implementation.
Saifuddin Ahmed, joint secretary of the Economic Relations Division, signed the agreement on behalf of the Bangladesh government while Stefan Ekelund, deputy country director, signed the agreement for ADB at a ceremony at the Economic Relation Department.
Hideshi Sasahara, first secretary of the Japanese embassy in Dhaka, among others, also attended the ceremony.
The technical assistance involves designing and proposing a plan to implement an integrated urban development strategy along the GCC project corridor, and enhancing traffic management and traffic rules enforcement.
The assistance also includes comprehensive capacity building programs for key stakeholders and help raise awareness on traffic rules and road safety. (Source)
