The Paltan police on Sunday submitted chargesheet to a Dhaka court against 148 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party in a case over March 11 violence in front of the BNP central office.
The accused include BNP chief whip Zainul Abdin Farroque, Amanullah Aman, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Mohammad Shahjahan, central leaders Habibur Rahman Habib, Ahsanul Haque, Azizul Islam and AZM Zahid Hossain, and JGP president Shafiul Alam Prodhan and other opposition activists.
They submitted the 16-page charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in the afternoon in the case filed with the Paltan police station under speedy trial act, said Golam Sarwar, officer-in-charge of the Paltan police.
Metropolitan magistrate, Shahriar Mahmood, received the charge sheet and fixed Monday for hearing on its acceptability, said court sources.
The Paltan police filed two cases against 154 identified leaders and activists of BNP and its allies and 50 to 60 other unidentified people over the March 11 violence.
The police found 148 people were involved in the violence among the 154 identified people after three days remand in their custody that started from March 21, said the OC.
Police filed two cases – one was lodged under the Explosive Substances Act and the Penal Code and another under the Speedy Trial Act against 154 BNP leaders and activists. (Source)
