Charges pressed in Parag abduction case

A judicial magistrate’s court on Sunday transferred the sensational Parag Mandal abduction case to another tribunal after the police had submitted the charge sheet.
Additional chief judicial magistrate Nazmul Haque Shyamal transferred the case to Women and Children Repression (Prevention) Tribunal 1 of Dhaka for the trial. The case docket was given to the tribunal.
The police on Saturday pressed charges against 12 people in the Parag abduction case dropping former Subaddya unit Juba League president Jewel Mollah, who was earlier arrested by a High Court order during initial stages of the investigation.
The investigation officer, Monirul Islam, also the inspector (investigation) of the Dakkhin Keraniganj police, submitted the charge sheet to the court inspector Md Asaduzzaman of Savar (general registration) branch.
Of the 12 accused, Muktar Hossain Amir, Al Amin, Zahidul Islam, Mohammad Ali Rifat, Kalachand, Mamun Miah, Beauty Akther, Shakil and Abul Kashem are in jail while Mohammed Akash, Mohammad Sultan and Mohammad Wasim are in hiding.
Jewel Mollah, Rizvi Ahmed Anik and Alfaz Hossain, arrested in different phases of the investigation, are also in jail. 
The charge sheet said that the accused had held the 11-year-old Parag to a ransom of Tk 50 lakh.
The investigation officer named Mukther Hossain Amir as the mastermind of the abduction. The other accused kidnapped Parag, according to his plan.
The police arrested Jewel Mollah on November 22, 2012 at his house at Keraniganj on a directive of the High Court.
Mohammad Ali Rifat, Zahidul Islam, Kalachand and Al Amin gave statements in the presence of magistrates on November 16. The four in their statements said that Amir had plotted the abduction, the police said.
On November 11, 2012, miscreants abducted Parag after shooting at his mother, sister and the driver of their car a few yards from their house at Subaddya Paschim Para in Keraniganj on the outskirts of Dhaka.
Three days later Parag was found at Atibazar in Keraniganj allegedly after his parents paid Tk 50 lakh in ransom. (Source)
